Steven's story

How EYPDAS helps young people like you

How Mark helped Steven

When Steven's friend's mum caught him smoking cannabis, she told his parents and his school. They wanted him to do something to make his teachers and family trust him again.

Steven agreed to talk to me about using drugs. I'm a project worker in the Schools Liaison team at EYPDAS. We provide a confidential drugs and alcohol information, advice and support service for young people.

I met Steven at school. He told me it was the first time he'd smoked cannabis, and that he hadn't liked it and wouldn't do it again. However, as he got to know me, Steven admitted that he actually smoked cannabis every weekend.

I worked with him to reduce the amount he smoked. He was pleased when he managed not to smoke in situations he normally would have.

During the school holidays, with time on his hands Steven started smoking more again. Teachers noticed that he wasn't concentrating or doing so well in class. So we've worked together again on how he can say no and what he can do instead of smoking cannabis. Steven has now considerably reduced his cannabis use now and has seen change for the better at school and at home.
