Magic Mushrooms
Drug: Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybin)
Street names: Mushies, Shrooms, Liberty Cap
(Psilocybe Semilanceata)
Similar drugs: LSD
Drug type: Hallucinogenic
Legal status: Magic mushrooms are a class A drug.
You could go to prison for seven years for possessing them and for
life for dealing them.
What is it? 'Magic' mushrooms contain the
ingredient psilocin or psilocybin which alters how the brain works.
They grow wild and are harvested between September and November in
the UK.
You can eat them raw or dry, boiled into tea or converted to
powder and swallowed ('bombed') in wraps.

How it can make you feel: Like LSD, magic mushrooms
can make you hallucinate. Familiar objects or people may become
distorted. This can either be funny or frightening - it depends on
your mood and environment.
Your heart rate can increase, your pupils can dilate and you may
get hot and cold flushes too.
The risks: There is no stopping a trip once it
starts - and they can be frightening. You can even get repeated
traumatic flashbacks after the event. Vomiting and diarrhoea are
common.
You're at greater risk of having an accident, and may be become
paranoid. You could accidentally eat the wrong type of mushroom,
which could turn out to be deadly.
